Partners in Personal Assistance (PPA) is an innovative nonprofit organization that provides in-home and community-based personal assistant services. PPA offers an empowering solution for people with disabilities and elders who want to exercise independence and self determination in directing their personal care.
Based on a model of self-determination and cooperation, PPA's innovative approach to personal assistance achieves a level of integration, empowerment, and equality that benefits both Consumer Employers (CE's) and Personal Assistants (PA's). People with disabilities are able to establish more stable lives due to high-quality assistance, and personal assistants are able to make a meaningful difference in their clients' lives while earning an decent income.
Just as physical dependence limits one's personal autonomy, so managing one's own personal assistance helps in building a sense of ability and self-worth. As CE's direct their own services, they become empowered to move their lives forward in many other ways as well.
